Archival Services

Every collection is unique and requires special consideration. In response to the specific needs of our clients, we offer on-site evaluation and assessment services. This evaluation of your collection will provide you with information determining the deterioration risk. We will also present you with options outlining how you can properly preserve and store your collection.
Each legacy format requires a different kind of restoration. Mahern Archival Preservation offers expert, full-service video and audio restoration. We provide both physical restoration (baking, cleaning, re-housing, etc.) and sonic restoration (noise reduction, equalization editing, etc.). Our experience gives us the necessary background to solve your problems.
We will work with you to determine which digital format is right for your collection. We offer record archiving, cataloging and database support to help organize your collection and prepare it for reformatting. This system functions dually to organize physical media for transfer and to help you manage newly created digital assets.

Why Mahern Archival?

Our founder, Paul Mahern, has long been on the cutting edge of audio preservation and audio restoration technology. He served as Indiana University’s lead audio engineer on the first Sound Directions project, which resulted in a digital preservation best practices publication that has become one of the most referenced documents in the field.

Paul’s years at the IU Archives of Traditional Music, one of the largest university-based ethnographic sound archives in the US, involved close contact with virtually every type of legacy audio format.

Our Bloomington, IN location allows us to keep overhead low while maintaining the highest standards of technical expertise. We offer world-class records archiving service at Midwestern prices.

We are record collectors, audio engineers, and music lovers too. We understand how important your collection is and will work tirelessly to save it.
